How to Change Image Colors in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (2023)

Learning how to change the color of images in Office applications like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is one such helpful tip that can come in handy in many situations. MS Office allows you to change color saturation, hue and recolor images using various presets and your custom colors.

Change image color in Microsoft Office

The instructions for changing the color of an image are the same in all three Office applications (Word, Powerpoint, and Excel). So if you know how to insert a picture and change its color in Word, you can easily do the same in PowerPoint and Excel using the options on the Format Picture or Format tab.

Follow the instructions below to change the color of an image in Microsoft Office:

First, start an Office application (Word, PowerPoint, or Excel) and open a new file or open an existing file. If you have an image whose color you want to change, select it.

If you haven't inserted an image yet, place your cursor where you want to add the image, go to the "Insert" tab, and click "Picture" in the "Illustrations" section. Choose This Device from the menu to choose an image from your computer, Images Stock to choose an image from online stock, or Images Online to get an image from Bing.

As the saturation is reduced, the color depth is also reduced and the image will be grayer. At the lowest saturation, the image will be black and white.

In the "Color Saturation" section, you'll have 7 preset saturation levels ranging from 0% to 400%. Choose the option you want to change the color.

Hue defines the temperature of a color, which refers to how warm or cool the colors in an image are. Tints are created when you mix gray with a solid color to reduce the intensity of the color. Choose the color temperature that suits you best to change the tone.

Here we've chosen a Temperature of 4700K (default is 6500K), which is a great color for the image.

To adjust the color temperature with precise values, you can click the "Color" button and select "Image Color Options...". Then adjust the color temperature (warm or cool) using the slider or by entering a value between 1500 and 11500 in the field next to Temperature.

recolorOptions allow you to color the image anew or differently. Applies a new color to the image using a new tint of your choice to match the rest of the document or presentation. The color change section has 21 preset options (including sepia, grayscale, dither, etc.) to change the color of images.
